Random Hacks of Kindness, 2011, Berlin

We want to offer the people at the hackathon a good, easy and fun working environment. To create this, we need a lot of stuff. We will have to buy some of it, but maybe there are also donors who can give us certain things directly because they are producing them or simply want to help. This would spare us a lot of bureaucratic efforts because we would not have to care about financial transactions and accounting and could focus on other things.

List of demands:
(the list will be updated when we adopted listed stuff)

UPDATE: Stand on 16th October 2015

  • ATTENTION – HELP URGENTLY NEEDED! We need a location in Berlin with good connection to public transport, small kitchen, variable work stations, several rooms, day and night access and adequate internet. We have found a perfect location in Andreasstrasse 10, next to Berlin Ostbahnhof in the nice rooms of our supporter Immobilienscout24 gefunden, they even have enough power distributors, and we would even have laptops to be used by refugees who want to help but do not have an own laptop. BUT: as the hackathon get much more interest as expected, we need a second location with space for about 80-100 hackathon participants, without a fee and near Berlin Ostbahnhof. Please inform us about each idea via the contact form …
  • Accommodation (hostels, hotels etc.) – e.g. for the organising team and the refugees coming from somewhere else than Berlin
  • Travel allowances, especially for pupils who won in north-rhine westphalia a price at JugendHackt with an app for refugees and want to further work on it during the hackathon.
  • DONE: non-alcoholic beverages, especially a lot of Mate, but also juice, water (with and without gas), tea and coffee (and things to pour into it) – we will need a lot of that as we expect up to 80 people for a whole weekend, including nights (wir werden viel von allem brauchen, es könnten ca. 80 Personen werden, ein ganzes WE lang, auch nachts (beverage or tea shops? coffeehouses?)
    • we already have: water from Immobilienscout24 (our location host), juice from RatioDrink (plus one conference water bottle!), tea from a private donor.
    • for other beverages we are supported by the agency Ressourcenmangel :-)
  • partially DONE: Breakfast – a lot of rolls, bread (hello bakeries!), butter, cold meat, jam, nutella, cereals and milk (hello supermarkets!) – the usual stuff for Saturday and Sunday
    • we asked for müsli at MyMüsli, but we still hope for answers
    • rolls will partially be donated by a private donor
    • for the rest, the donation of F-Secure might be enough
  • DONE: Fruit – to snack on it, variagated (fruit and vegetable shops?) – we would still be happy about a donation, you can simply bring it
  • DONE: Food: Thanks to our sponsor F-Secure we won’t be hungry :-)
    • Warm lunch (vegetarian with optional meat, e.g. chili sin/con carne) and midnight snack – e.g. soup (ideal: vegetarian with optional meat trimmings),
    • Snacks – for in between work, everything from cereal bars to nuts and raisins, we also happily take some cake (of course we love homemade cake!)
    • Paper plates, knifes and forks (preferably wooden), napkins
  • DONE: SWAG and so on: thanks to our supporter Project-A we can buy all of the following
    • Stickers – for advertisement and as give-aways
    • Posters and flyers – as advertisement and guideposts / decoration
    • T-shirts – it would be great if we could get a top-deal, it is always nice to take a souvenir home from a hacker event
